Located 9 miles south of the city of Lexington in Davidson County on Highway 8, High Rock Lake is one of Davidson County's finest treasures. The lake offers boating, swimming, skiing and fishing. Indian artifacts can still be found along the shoreline. In the past few years, the BASS Master's Classic, the world's most prestigious fishing tournament was held here.
High Rock Lake was completed in 1927 by ALCOA as part of a four-lake chain including High Rock, Tuckertown, Badin and Falls Reservoirs, to provide hydroelectric power to their aluminum manufacturing plant on Badin Lake. High Rock is fed by the Yadkin River and features 360 miles of shoreline dotted with weekend cottages and permanent homes. The main channel is more than 23 miles long. The major parts of the lake are "the River", Abbotts Creek, Flat Swamp Creek, Panther Creek, Dutch Second Creek, Swearing Creek and Crane Creek. These areas were named for the Yadkin River and the streams that flow into the Lake. The headwaters of the Yadkin River are in the mountains of North Carolina. The amount of rain and snow in the mountains is the biggest factor in our water levels.
This area is popular for year round residents as well as weekenders from Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Raleigh and Charlotte. It is convenient from Interstate I-85, Hwy 29/70, Highway 8 and Highway 49.
