Area and Location
Davidson County is located in the Piedmont Triad Area of North Carolina. The country has
a total area of 567 square miles and is bordered by Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph and Rowan counties. The estimated population in 2004 was 153,775. The county is divided into seventeen townships: Abbotts Creek, Alleghancy, Arcadia, Boone, Conrad Hill, Cotton Grove, Emmons, Hampton, Healing Springs, Jackson Hill, Lexington, Midway, Reedy Creek, Silver Hill, Thomasville, Tyro and YadkinCollege .
The incorporated towns are Denton, Lexington, Midway, Thomasville and Wallburg. Soon after its formation in 1822 from Rowan County, Lexington became the county seat. Throughout Lexington’s history, the city has relied on its strength as a manufacturing hub for furniture and agricultural. Davidson County has adapted to the changing employment conditions caused by the outsourcing of furniture manufacturing by embracing other avenues for revenue for the county such as racing motor sports, viticulture and tourism.

ue”. The first barbeque restaurant opened its door in 1919 and today there are over 20 barbeque restaurants in Lexington. October is barbeque month in DavidsonCounty with events scheduled throughout the month culminating with the barbeque festival. When you visit the town of Lexington stroll down Main Street and visit over 190 retail, service and professional business and community resources. The square at the corner of Main and Center features the DavidsonCountyHistoricalMuseum located in the old courthouse. High Rock Lake
High Rock Lake is located 9 miles south of Lexington on Route 8 and features 365 miles of shoreline dotted with weekend cottages and permanent homes. The lake offers boating, swimming, skiing and fishing. In the past few years, the BASS Masters Classic, the world’s most prestigious fishing tournament was held here.
